Lovely post! I like that remote work is a way of working nowadays. It is important for us introverts to understand it isn’t necessary to force that extrovert side out all the time. It’s nice to be yourself and work at the same time.

Agree—it definitely served me well while I did it, but I also found myself going a little stir crazy, even as introverted as I am. I think a lot of it had to do with the nature of my industry, too. I’m glad we all have more options than before!

This felt very personal to me, too, Kait. I work for a small tech consulting firm from home and have been a remote worker since 2020. My personality and the quality of my life has been profoundly changed for it. I find myself resistant to the idea of looking for in-person work (the convenience! the sweatpants!) ... but I do share Malcolm Gladwell's widely unpopular opinion that life is not meant to be like this.

Your job at the stationary store sounds amazing for so many reasons. I am thinking of getting a very part-time job in a bookstore, just to experience it because it's always been such a dream.

I agree! I am so torn sometimes, but ultimately think my wellbeing has suffered because of how isolated I am. I’m glad I’m not alone in this realization.

You should absolutely get a part time job at a book store! That was my first choice, but I never ended up hearing back from the few I applied to. Working in a bookstore or library is the ultimate dream 📚🩷

This really spoke to me as someone who works from home and gets too in their head about what to write. Some more stimuli (and dancing) would definitely help!

Enjoyed reading this, reminded me that my favorite job was one of my first jobs working in the shipping and receiving department of Stacy's Books in downtown San Francisco. It was physical work, I had a lot of independence, and felt like I was good at my job. I got to send books to people in prison too, we were one of a few bookstores that did this at the time I think. And we had a large technical books offering, so I also sent out a lot of international orders. It was meaningful work to me and I liked both my managers. It's all been downhill since my twenties, lol

I love the way you write! As someone who works from home, I’ve noticed that the days I force myself to leave the house are so much better than the days I don’t. Part of me has been wanting to get a second job working at a coffee shop or something, and this convinced me to take the leap.
