Kait, thank you for this gorgeous, inspiring piece. It’s tugging on so many timely & tender heart strings. I’m currently in a long, slow process of disentangling from the need for societal validation in my work, having recently moved to a tiny island and left social media to throw myself more deeply into a project I’ve been working on for many years (a textual work that has recently revealed itself as an opera). The vision working its way through me is immense. Marta’s opera house is a powerful image of the radical & impossible that is nurturing the roots of my creative inquiry. These kinds of templates toward radical creativity beyond convention are so generous and life-giving.

Very grateful for your creative devotion! If we can all keep our heads and eyes and arrows pointed toward the practice & visions of our work and away from metrics, the world will be all the better.

Thank you, Alma. This means so much coming from you. I agree—learning about Marta sort of fueled me, kept me going when I thought all hope was lost. I’m very thankful to have discovered her when I did.

An opera sounds amazing, and I hope to have the pleasure of reading it someday soon! x

Wow thanks for introducing me to Marta! I love discovering real people and stories that are so fascinating they feel like fiction. This also prompted me to go on a deep dive about the plagiarism scandal - so crazy!

I feel the same! I love when people have lore. Also yes, isn’t that scandal insane?!

Thank you, Kylie. And thank you for reading! If you haven’t been, I highly recommend driving through Death Valley! There’s something about it. I fully understand Marta’s draw to the landscape.

I live in Australia Kait, so a drive through Death Valley, as much as it would blow my tiny mind (!) will have to go on my list of places to explore in the future. I have lived and worked in the Australian desert, but I imagine they are very different...
